INDIRA GANDHI INDOOR STADIA COMPLEX

New Delhi

Location: New Delhi
Area: 100 Acres
Status: Completed

Spread over almost 100 Acres of land, this site once used for Asian Games, 1982 needed extensive up gradation and renewed master planning to accommodate at the same time two more Indoor Stadia vis-a-vis Wrestling and the Velodrome for the Commonwealth Games of 2010. Intense co-ordination was required to satisfy the big crowd and overlapping user groups, interweaved around 1000 big trees at site, thus making this a challenging yet extremely satisfying job.

Urban Plazas were designed to cater huge spectator load and different user groups are interlaced through the random tree positions that provided not only shaded pockets but also adding a labyrinth of green on the paving walk. The sweep of the main pedestrian spine, the central celebration plaza, robust detailing and use of colored pavers to enhance ceremonial effect, marks the key aspects of the proposed landscape.
